Salma is a communications, public policy and government affairs expert, with over 10 years’ experience in Westminster and Whitehall. She was appointed Partner at Portland, the communications and public affairs company, in March 2021.

Previously, she was Special Advisor to Home Secretary Sajid Javid from 2018 to 2019, responsible for strategy and communications across the Department.

Salma served in the UK Government from May 2014, in the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government (MHCLG).

Salma is a columnist for the Independent and regular pundit on the BBC, Channel 4 and ITV. Prior to this Salma was a journalist at the BBC, producing the Today programme on Radio 4.
