Sir John Whittingdale OBE MP

Sir John has been the MP for Maldon since 1992. He is a former Minister of State for Media and Data at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (2020-2021), having previously served as Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport from (2015-2016).

He is also a former Chair of the Culture, Media & Sport Select Committee (2005-2015) and carried out the inquiry into phone hacking by the News of the World.

Before being elected as an MP, Sir John worked in Whitehall and in the City, including working as Political Secretary to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and Private Secretary after she left office. He was awarded an OBE in her resignation honours list. In October 2022 Sir John was awarded a Knighthood by King Charles for political and public service.
