Stephen is an associate editor and columnist at the Financial Times, writing a daily newsletter, Inside Politics, which charts the course of UK politics and policy, and a wide-ranging weekly column.
Stephen joined the Financial Times in March 2022 from the New Statesman where he had been Political Editor since December 2018. He first joined the New Statesman in 2015 and served as Special Correspondent. Before the New Statesman, Stephen worked at Progress magazine and wrote for The Daily Telegraph.
In June 2020 Stephen was appointed to chair the Board of Deputies of British Jews’ commission on racial inclusivity within the Jewish community. He is a regular commentator on UK politics, often appearing on BBC Two’s Politics Live and Newsnight.
