Nic Newman

Nic is Senior Research Associate at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, part of the Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Oxford.
He’s the lead author of its annual Digital News Report which probes news consumption trends in 46 countries covering half the world’s population. Nic also authors an influential annual report on media and technology trends.
Nic has a background as a journalist. He was a founding member of the team that launched the BBC News website, leading international coverage as World Editor (1997-2001). Later, as Head of Product and Engineering for BBC News, Nic helped introduce innovations such as blogs, podcasting, on-demand video and mobile apps, and played an important part in the development of social media strategies and guidelines for the wider BBC.
